Coming from Woodstock, NY the epicenter of the “Bhajan Belt” SRI Kirtan have been a community force and magnet for kirtan. “Our idea was to create musically diverse yet fantastically joyous and approachable chants. The whole point of kirtan is to join in the bhav or divine mood and sing along with others,” says Sruti Ram. “I feel that we have accomplished this and more with this album.” There’s no doubt about it, Live Your Love is sure to set a milestone in the kirtan/chant scene. “We gave it all our creatively and technically, our full effort, and then some,” says Ishwari. Chant4Change Hosted by the renowned yoga teacher and leader, Shiva Rea, Chant4Change is a music event that was held within view of the White House the night before Obama’s Inauguration. Featuring soul-warming chants of Grammy-nominated artist Jai Uttal, Dave Stringer and Gaura Vani, among others, Chant4Change Live is a piece of history in the story of the growing kirtan and chant lifestyle. The event ushered in a new era of spiritual intension and consciousness. Jai Uttal has been leading the chant scene for over 25 years. With over 12 albums, he is a master and teacher of the art of chanting. The LA Times has declared chanting with Dave Stringer to be “a departure from ancient kirtan. His performance shaped the experience into a far more compelling musical encounter.” From the age of six, Gaura Vani as been leading kirtans around the world getting crowds off their feet with his powerhouse voice and up-tempo rhythms. Saul David Raye is a leading yoga teacher in Los Angeles and is known for his empowering and holistic approach to health through yoga and music. Daphne Tse merges spiritual vibrations with contemporary folk singer-songwriter style with her warm rendition of Saraswati Mata. Mayapuris The Mayapuris have crash-landed into the kirtan/chant genre, quickly becoming the most talked-about group in this growing culture of exotic world music. Their debut album Mridanga soars with fiery vocals, earth-shaking rhythms and enchanting musical flavor. Named after the Mridanga, a clay and leather drum from Mayapur, India where kirtan/chant music originated, this album showcases the musical versatility of The Mayapuris and the instruments they play.
